I love this picture of my precious girl, Fiona Fig. This image captures what summer is all about for me - finding time to sit and soak in the beauty of nature at its peak of abundance. Fiona Fig is looking out at the meadow, taking it all in. As humans move at an ever faster pace more attuned and entwined to technology than to nature, it is essential to find moments to slow down, to simply sit and be. I find that it is these moments of stillness that feed me and the creative process. How are you slowing down this summer?

Happy Summer Solstice! This Friday marks the beginning of summer and embodies the Earth's abundance. It is when the sun is highest in the sky, when the Great Mother reveals her many gifts and invites us to witness the peak of her creative power. This full flowering moment honors the Divine Feminine principle of receptivity and nurturing, as the longest day cradles us in extended light while simultaneously holding the wisdom that all things in nature ebb and flow in perfect balance.

Frida Kahlo is one of my heroes. She inspires me with her bravery and resilience to do her art in spite of the challenges she experienced in her life; from the horrific accident on the trolley to being a woman artist in a misogynistic male world. I did this self portrait inspired by her in 1982. I put in all my symbols: the cat I would have as my companion, forest and flowers, things with wings, the moon and stars. She traveled her own road and I aspire to maintain the same courage and confidence Frida so beautifully embodies, as I travel my own.

I took this picture of zebras when I was in Africa. On the trip we were visiting conservationist groups under the umbrella of the Wildlife Conservation Network. The zebras' beatify inspired my painting. See the Zebra Altar below.

This is a picture of me and my Great Dane, Fiona Fig, a tall, lanky 130 pound beauty. I didn’t have to lean over to pet her. Like Great Danes do, she would just sidle up and lean against me so I could pet her black shiny coat and stroke her velvet ears. She was a sprite, a dreamer, living only partly in this world. There is a dog breed called a ‘Teacup Chihuahua’ for its minuscule stature. That is the origin and humor behind The Miss Fiona Fig: Tea Cup Great Dane Notecard set; Fiona Fig trying to fit herself into a teacup. See the card set below.

Here is a peek into my morning routine with Justice Grey. I imagine that his life before me was hard because he bears the scars, literal and figurative. At first he was extremely resistant to being touched, being close, being held. With persistence, constant gentle touching, softly spoken words of affection, never raising my voice in anger and a lot of treats, he has slowly opened up to me. One morning I was sitting on the chaise part of my sofa taking my supplements and Justice came up and curled himself between my legs and I had to take a photo.

I took this picture of this gorgeous giraffe when I was in Kenya, Africa. While it has been many years since I was there, I continue to go back to the photos from that trip, adventuring through time back to the wonder of being in close proximity to so many magnificent animals. In my paintings I depict animals as equals - creating a world on the canvas where creatures and humans live in harmony. I hope for a future world in which we protect rather than destroy the precious habitats our Mother Earth provides for giraffes and other wondrous animals.

Through my artwork I envision and create the world as I would like it to be – a place where harmony exists between animal and human and where animals can live out their purpose not the one we impose on them. This picture was taken on my trip to Africa where I got to spend time at the David Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary. These are the orphaned babies that they rescue. Explore my fine art to see how my relationships with animals and the natural world informs my work.

Heart rocks find me everywhere I go. I started finding them on my rehab walks with Marmie after my heart surgery. I am still finding them. I spray painted this one pink, a reminder to return to the heart again and again and to live from an open-hearted place. My artwork comes from my heart and is an expression of my love for the planet, for nature, and her many creatures. My heart coasters and heart runes are wonderful Easter gifts for anyone doing last minute holiday shopping.

We had a wonderful spring yoga retreat at my studio with 17 incredible women. I invited yoga teacher Betsy Bertram to lead the retreat and curated a special pop up shop with my products. We set spring intentions and practiced yoga, breathwork, and mediation. In the afternoon we walked the labyrinth. It was a lovely event and we are excited to announce we will have another retreat this fall on October 12th.
